Carla Abellana on the Spotlight!

The name Carla Abellana is becoming a household name specially now that her first ever taste in acting in a lead role at that is about to be aired. She is the Pinay Rosalinda a newcomer in showbiz. As a young child never thought she’d be an actress someday although showbiz runs in her family her maternal grandma, Delia Razon, was a top star at LVN Pictures in the 1950s, and her parents, Rey ‘PJ’ Abellana and Rhea Reyes, are both actors who met on the set of GMA 7’s soap, “Anna Liza”, in the early 80s.

As Carla Abellana was growing up there were several offers for her to try showbiz but it never entered her mind since she was busy with her studies and was contented going to school and home as a routine. But offers persisted so she tried doing some TV commercials which was just okay with her since she really wanted to finish college.

She graduated in La Salle with a degree of Psychology and she worked after college as a pre-school teacher and also did some human resource work for a real estate office in Rockwell.

When she attended the wedding of her friend Cheska Garcia, that’s where he met Arnold Vegafria her current manager and one thing leads to another. Arnold introduced her to Mother Lily Monteverde of Regal Films and was immediately signed a contract with the film outfit and the next thing they asked her to audition for GMA7 for a TV series which they are looking for a lead actress to play the role.

It turned out that she passed the audition with flying colors and she will play the lead role of the Pinoy adaptation of the Mexican Telenovela Rosalinda. Never in Her wildest dream that she would one day play the role of Rosalinda, it was one of her favorite TV show when she was in her teens.

Many people are comparing her with Marian Rivera and this is what she had to say about the comparison: “Bakit naman ako magiging threat to anyone? Baguhan pa lang ako. I’ve met Marian and she’s so nice and sweet. It flatters me when people compare me to her. Pero sana, huwag na lang kami intrigahin. There’s room naman for everyone in this business as long as you can prove you have talent.”

“Rosalinda” will start airing on July 6, replacing “Totoy Bato” and she is thankful to her co-stars in Rosalinda for being very supportive of her as a newcomer.” Rosalinda also stars Geoff Eigenmann, Katrina Halili, Sheena Halili, Sheryl Cruz, Roderick Paulate, Gary Estrada, Jessa Zaragoza, Ariel Rivera, Jennifer Sevilla and Gian Magdangal.
